Week Two: The Alabama Learning Exchange (ALEX)

ALEX is a website that contains several catagories of information that would be a very valuable tool for teachers planning curriculum and activities for children from grades Kindergarten to 12th grade. The resources provide you with the necessary information needed to educate children in each area of their basic subjects taught as a student in these grades. Some resources used on the ALEX website are courses of study, such as English Language Arts, Science, Mathematics, Social Studies, Arts Education, Career and Technical Education, Physical Education, Health Education, Foreign Language, Technology education, Driver and Traffic Safety Education, and other courses of studies that may aide teachers in their goal of providing students with the appropriate information needed for the guidelines established.
The ALEX site also provides web link correlated to the content standards for teachers, administrators, and teachers. These web links provide specific sites for these educators in their specific field or position that helps them enhance and polish their own skills which enable them to teach the children they educate each day. There is a specific resource page that allows educators to view sample lesson plans that would assist them in providing a plan for age-appropriate curriculum based on the grade level that is being taught. These lesson plans can be used to provide teachers with ideas for planning classroom activities and how these plans should be put together.
The Alabama Department Education Program can be used to find professional development, which is also one of the resources provided by the ALEX website. The professional development provides opportunities, teaching and learning tools, the latest news, and the best practices that can be used in the classroom or their field. The ALEX site also provides a Support Roundtable, which aides in the enhancement of the Alabama Leadership Development skills these educators should have. Library media is provided, which is wonderful tool to use with the children. A Special Education resource is also available to provide teachers with information and practices that are vital to their level of training. ALEX also provides a personal workplace for teachers to store and submit their lesson plans, and teacher/child directed activities in the classroom.

Week One: All About Me

I am a twenty-five year old wife and mother of 3 beautiful boys: Jahkeyston;6 Derek Jr.;3 and Jadarius;2. I have been a resident of Daphne, Alabama for 3 years following Hurricane Katrina in 2005 which destroyed everything my family and I owned. Prior to 2005, We lived in Moss Point, Mississippi where I graduated from Moss Point High School in May of 2001. As a child, I have always had a dream of becoming a famous writer, actress, and model. during high school I was a member of the Drama Club, Journalism Club, and I was co-editor of the school newspaper. This was when I began writing school plays, participating in poetry contests, and auditioning for a chance to participate in talent competions showcasing my ability as both an actress and model.
In 2001, I was chosen as a semifinalist in The Famous Poet's Society Poetry competition which took place in Reno, Nevada. I was unable to attend the competition, but just the fact that my work was chosen out of 650 other contestants was a huge accomplishment for me. Prior to high school I received an Associates Degree in Early Childhood Education and began working as a preschool teacher in several daycares and finally the headstart program in Jackson County. In November of 2003, I was selected to compete in a talent competion in Hollywood, California where I won first place in the acting category, making it to the semifinals in the end. This was yet another amazing accomplishment for me.
After many years of struggling to raise our three children, my husband and I are finally living in the paths of our dreams. He is attending Mississippi Gulf Coast Community College as a 2nd year logistics major. I am currently teaching preschoolers at Magnolia Springs Headstart where I have been for 2 years now. I have also decided to pursue a degree in Elementary Education here at USA because I want to work with other children as they begin their journey through life. I have also decided to go further with my acting career. After attending an interview on June 2, with two Pro-Scout Representatives, I will be leaving on August 29 to attend a seminar and audition in front of over 40 of the most prominent modeling and talent agencies in the world. God has finally blessed me for my faithfulness, and I give all of the glory to him!
Although Hurricane Katrina was very hard for my family and I to make it through, I thank God for everything he has done. They printed a story about me when we were in a shelter with two of our children, and many people want to know what ever happened to me. My family and I had to drag our children through 4 shelters and sleep on hard floors with no food to eat for several days. I even had a nervous breakdown right after the storm, but we never gave up hope. We still prayed that God would give us the desires od our hearts, and finally he has!
